Tick the microphone if you want sound, press Turn on the camera and allow it when your browser asks.
Check the preview
Pick another camera if you have one, and choose a quality. The preview is mirrored like a mirror; the recording is not.
Record
Press Start recording. A three-second countdown gives you time to get ready; press Stop when you are done.
Play it and download
The recording appears with a player. Download it, or press Record again for another take.
Press Turn on the camera, check the preview and press Start recording. When you stop, the recording appears with a player and a download button, and nothing is uploaded.
After a recording, Record again keeps the camera on, so you can try another take at once. Download the take you want before you record the next one, because only the latest is kept on the page.
MP4 where your browser can record it, which plays almost anywhere, otherwise WebM. A WebM straight from the browser has no length or seek table, so players and editors cannot skip through it; the page tidies it after you stop without touching the picture or sound. The picture is up to 1080p, depending on your camera, and a recording stops by itself at 1 GB, which is at least about 28 minutes at the High setting and usually longer.
The recording is made in your browser on your own computer or phone. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many recordings you make. Download the recording before you close the page, because it is held in memory until then.
Press Turn on the camera and allow it when your browser asks, check the preview, then press Start recording and Stop when you are done. The recording appears with a player and a download button.
Open this page on the laptop, turn on the camera, and record. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook laptops in a current browser, and there is nothing to install.
Yes. Any camera your computer can use, the one built into a laptop or a USB webcam, can be recorded from this page, with sound from the microphone if you want it.
No. The recording is made in your browser on your own computer or phone and is never sent anywhere. It stays in memory until you download it, so download it before you close the page.
MP4 where your browser can record it (the most compatible), otherwise WebM; when both are offered you can choose with Save as. A WebM is tidied after you stop so that players and editors can skip through it.
When more than one camera is found, a list appears above the recording button. On a phone, Switch camera changes between the front and back cameras.
The page uses the microphone your browser is set to use for this site. Change it in the browser's site settings (the icon at the left of the address bar) or in your computer's sound settings, then turn the camera on again.
Yes. Untick Record sound from the microphone before you turn the camera on, and the recording has no sound track.
A mirrored preview feels natural, because it moves the way a mirror does. The recording shows you the way other people see you, so it is not mirrored, and text you hold up reads the right way round.
Use Rotate/Flip Video and tick Mirror left to right; it makes a new video, so the original stays as it was.
Another app or tab (Zoom, Teams, a video call in another tab) may be using the camera: close it and try again. If access was denied, allow the camera in the browser's site settings and reload the page.
Yes. After a recording, press Record again; the camera stays on, so you can try again straight away. Download the take you want before you record the next one.
There is no watermark and no fixed time limit. A recording stops by itself when it reaches 1 GB, which takes at least about 28 minutes at the default High quality (and about 57 at Standard), and usually longer because a webcam picture uses less data than the highest rate allowed.
At most about 5 megabits per second at the default High quality, which is roughly 2 MB for every 3 seconds; the size shown while you record is live. Standard allows about half that rate and Highest about one and a half times as much.
The page asks your camera for up to 1920 × 1080 and uses whatever it provides, so a basic laptop camera gives 720p and a better one gives 1080p.
Yes, with the Screen Recorder: tick Show my camera in a corner and your camera picture is placed over the recording.
Sit facing a window or a lamp so that your face is lit from the front, put the camera at eye level, use headphones or a headset microphone if you can, and record a short take first to check the picture and the sound before the real one.
Yes. Windows has the Camera app, and on a Mac QuickTime Player can make a New Movie Recording. This page needs no app and works the same on both.
Yes, in the current Safari or Chrome. Open the page, allow the camera, and use Switch camera for the front or back one.
