Drop the video on the page or click to browse. MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV all work, up to 100 MB.
Choose how to turn it
Pick Turn right, Turn left or Turn upside down, and tick a mirror option if you want one. The small preview shows the result.
Make the new video
Press the button. The video is turned on ToolStudio's server and the sound is kept.
Play it and download
The new video appears with a player. It is an MP4 that plays on nearly every device.
Add a video, choose how to turn or mirror it, and download the new video. A small preview shows the result before you start, and the sound is kept.
Choose both a turn and a mirror and the picture is turned first and then mirrored, in the same order as the preview.
Phones record in the orientation of the camera sensor and add a note telling a player to turn the picture. Many players honour the note, but some players, websites and devices ignore it, and then the video shows up sideways. A video made here has the picture itself turned, so it plays the same everywhere.
The picture has to be made again to turn it, and it is made at a high quality setting, close to the original. The result is an MP4 with H.264 picture and AAC sound; the original sound is copied when MP4 can hold it. A phone video that is stored sideways is first turned the way a player would show it, so the preview and the result agree.
Making a video again is too slow for a browser, so this tool works on ToolStudio's server: your video is uploaded for it and the files are deleted automatically afterwards. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many videos you turn. Videos up to 100 MB can be added, and the server refuses a video that would take too long, which in practice means about a minute and a half of 1080p video or three and a half minutes of 720p. Trim a longer one first.
Add the video, choose Turn right, Turn left or Turn upside down, check the small preview and press Make the new video. A short while later the turned video appears with a player; press Download to save it. The sound is kept.
Choose Turn right for a quarter turn clockwise, or Turn left for a quarter turn the other way (the same as 270 degrees clockwise). The preview shows the result before you start.
Yes. Choose Turn upside down and the whole picture is turned half a circle.
Tick Mirror left to right. Left and right swap, as in a mirror, so text that read backwards in a selfie video reads the right way round.
Tick Mirror top to bottom. The top becomes the bottom, the way an image looks reflected in water.
Rotating turns the whole picture around a point, so a landscape video becomes upright. Flipping (mirroring) reverses it as in a mirror and does not turn it. You can do both in one go.
A mirrored video is reversed left to right, like your reflection. Many phones show a selfie preview mirrored but save the video the other way round, so lettering on a shirt or a sign reads backwards; mirror the video to match what you saw on screen.
Yes. The picture is turned first and then mirrored, and the preview shows exactly that order, so what you see in it is what you get.
Phones record in the orientation of the camera sensor and add a note that tells a player to turn the picture. Some players, websites and devices ignore that note, so the video shows up sideways. Turning the picture itself here fixes it for every player.
Open this page in Safari or Chrome, add the video from your phone, choose Turn right or Turn left until the preview stands upright, make the new video and download it to your phone.
Turning a picture changes where every pixel sits, so the picture is made again, at high quality. The other way, a note that asks the player to turn the picture, is not honoured by every player and device, which is the reason for sideways videos in the first place. A video made here plays the same everywhere.
The new video is made at a high quality setting, close to the original. In testing, a worst-case noisy test video turned this way scored about 43 dB on the PSNR scale against a lossless turn, a level generally considered indistinguishable by eye.
Yes. The sound is copied as it is when MP4 can hold it (AAC or MP3), and is made into AAC for sound types it cannot, such as the Vorbis in a WebM.
Yes, this tool works on ToolStudio's server, because turning the picture means making the video again, which is too slow for a browser. The video is uploaded for that, and the files are deleted automatically afterwards.
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV go in. An MP4 (H.264 picture and AAC sound) comes out, a type that plays on nearly every phone, computer and website.
Videos up to 100 MB can be added. The server also works out beforehand how long the job would take and politely refuses a video that would not finish, which in practice means roughly up to a minute and a half of 1080p video or three and a half minutes of 720p. Trim a longer video first.
It depends on the video's length and size, plus your upload time. In testing with the work held to a single processor thread, a 30-second 720p clip took about half a minute and 1080p video took about three seconds of work per second of video.
Quarter turns: right (90 degrees), upside down (180) and left (270), and mirroring in both directions, together or on their own.
Yes. A video that carries a note saying turn me is first turned the way a player would show it, and your choice is applied to that, so the preview and the result agree.
Turn right or Turn left makes a landscape video upright. If the app shows black bars, use Resize/Crop Video to crop it to the shape the app likes, or to keep the whole picture on a blurred background instead of black bars.
A quarter turn swaps width and height, so a 1920 × 1080 video becomes 1080 × 1920. A half turn and mirroring keep the size.
Each video is a separate job. Download one, press Start over and add the next.
