Drop the video on the page or click to browse. MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV all work, up to 150 MB.
Choose what to do
Pick Louder or quieter and slide the change (from 30 dB quieter to 30 dB louder), or pick Even out the loudness to bring the whole video to a steady level.
Press Change volume
Your browser changes the sound and copies the picture as it is. It takes a few seconds.
Play it and download
The new video appears with a player. It is the same type of file as the original.
Add a video, choose how much louder or quieter, and download one video with the new volume. The picture is copied exactly as it is, so the quality of the video does not change, and the job takes seconds.
Making a sound louder can push its loudest moments past the maximum, which is what makes it crackle when a player is turned up beyond 100%. After every boost, the tool holds those peaks just below the maximum. It cannot add detail that was never recorded: hiss, wind and room noise rise together with the voice, so choose the smallest boost that sounds right.
The picture and any subtitles are copied across without being decoded or compressed again, and the file you get back is the same type as the one you put in: MP4 stays MP4, and MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV stay what they were. Every sound track in the video is changed and keeps its language label. Only the sound is made again, once, in the format that file type holds, which is also why it is quick.
Your browser changes the volume on your own phone or computer, so the video is not uploaded. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many videos you make. The first time you use any of the video or audio tools on this site, your browser downloads the small engine that does the work (about 10 MB) and keeps it for next time. Videos up to 150 MB can be added.
Add the video, leave Louder or quieter selected, slide the volume to the right (the page starts at +6 dB) and press Change volume. A few seconds later the new video appears with a player so you can hear it; press Download to save it. The picture is not touched, only the sound.
Slide the change to a positive number. About +6 dB doubles the strength of the sound wave, and about +10 dB is what most people hear as twice as loud. Try +6 first, play the result, and go higher only if it is still too quiet.
Slide the change to a negative number, for example -6 dB for about half the strength. A video that is too loud for a quiet room, or one you are about to put under a voice-over, usually wants -6 to -12 dB.
From 30 dB quieter to 30 dB louder in steps of 1 dB. Making it louder is limited just below the loudest possible level, so a big boost on sound that is already loud adds less than the number says rather than distorting.
A decibel is a step on a scale of loudness. Plus 6 dB doubles the strength of the sound wave, minus 6 dB halves it, and about 10 dB more or less is what the ear takes as twice or half as loud. Zero means no change.
The tool holds the loudest peaks just below the maximum, so a boost does not crackle the way turning up a player past 100% can. It cannot add detail that was never recorded: hiss, wind and room noise rise together with the voice, so choose the smallest boost that sounds right.
Changing a file is safe for the file: your original is never touched, and you download a new copy. Loud sound can hurt hearing and strain small speakers, so check the result with the device volume low first and raise it from there.
It multiplies every moment of the sound by a number (a boost of +6 dB is a multiplication by two) and holds back any peak that would pass the maximum. The picture is copied across unchanged.
It measures how loud the whole video sounds and brings it to a steady, comfortable level, lifting quiet parts and holding back loud ones. It is the choice for a video where someone drifts away from the microphone, or where one scene is much quieter than another.
Boost when the whole video is simply quiet. Even it out when the volume jumps around, or when you want several videos to sound about equally loud. If you are not sure, even it out first and play the result.
Usually the recording was made far from the microphone, with the phone's microphone covered, or in wind. The sound was captured quietly, so the file is quiet however high you turn the player up. Boosting the file here is the fix; next time, record closer to the voice.
The picture is copied without being decoded or compressed again, so every frame is identical to the original. Only the sound is made again, once, in the format your file's type holds (AAC for MP4, MOV and MKV, Opus for WebM).
Very little. In testing, a 14.2 MB video came back as 14.5 MB and a 71.0 MB video as 71.4 MB, because the sound is saved again at a fixed quality while the picture is copied.
No. Your browser changes the volume on your own phone or computer, so the video never leaves your device and nothing is sent to a server.
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV. The new video is the same type as the one you added, so a MOV comes back as a MOV.
Every sound track is changed and each keeps its language label, so a video with an English and a Hindi track comes back with both, both louder.
The page tells you that the video has no sound track, so there is no volume to change. To give it a sound, use Add Audio to Video.
Cut the video into parts with the Video Splitter, change the volume of the part you want here, and join the parts again with Merge Videos.
Open this page in Safari or Chrome, add the video from your phone, choose how much louder and download the new video to your phone.
Searches like this are usually about the phone's volume during the call, which no video file controls; use the phone's volume buttons. What this page does is make the video file itself louder, which helps when the recording is quiet.
A video you are watching is controlled by the player's and your device's volume, not by a file. For a video of your own, set its volume here before you upload. YouTube is widely reported to lower uploads that are louder than its target level, so a very loud file may be turned back down.
That is a different job: Compress Video makes a video's file smaller, while this page changes how loud it is.
Remove Audio from Video takes the sound out, and Add Audio to Video replaces it with another track or mixes music in.
Videos up to 150 MB can be added. A short clip is the usual case and is done in seconds.
A few seconds. In testing, changing the volume of a 30-second 720p video took about 3 to 4 seconds including the engine's first start, and a one-minute 71 MB 1080p video took about 6 seconds (about 10 seconds to even out its loudness), because only the sound is made again. The first time you use a video or audio tool on the site, add a few seconds for your browser to start the engine.
