Drop the video on the page or click to browse. MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV all work, up to 150 MB.
Check the preview
Play it to be sure it is the right clip. If the video has no sound at all, you are told straight away.
Press Remove the audio
A few seconds later the muted video appears with a player and its new file size.
Download it
The file keeps the type and quality of the original, with -no-audio added to its name so it is easy to tell apart.
Add a video, press Remove the audio, and download the same video with the sound taken out. That is the whole job, and it takes a few seconds: the picture is copied across exactly as it is, so nothing is re-rendered and nothing is lost.
Most video editors work on the picture, so muting a clip there means rendering the whole video again when you export. This tool does not touch the picture. It copies the video track as it is and leaves the sound track out. That is why a long video is done in seconds, why the quality is identical to the original, and why the file you get back is the same type as the one you put in: MP4 stays MP4, and MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV stay what they were. Resolution, frame rate and length do not change.
If the video has more than one audio track - a second language, a commentary, a separate microphone - every one of them is removed. Subtitles, if the video has any, are kept. If the video has no sound at all, you are told straight away instead of being handed a copy that looks as if nothing happened.
The work is done by your own browser, so the video is never uploaded. There is no account, no watermark, no queue and no limit on how many videos you mute. The first time you use any of the video or audio tools on this site, your browser downloads the small engine that does the work (about 10 MB) and keeps it for next time. Videos up to 150 MB are handled on the page.
It works in the browser on all of them, with nothing to install. Your phone can also mute a clip by itself. On an iPhone, open the video in Photos, tap Edit, tap the speaker icon at the top left and tap Done; Revert brings the sound back. In Google Photos on Android, open the video, tap Edit, tap the volume icon and save a copy (the icon's place changes between versions). Those are quick for a clip that stays on your phone. This page is the better choice when the video is on a computer, when the picture must stay untouched, or when you want the sound gone from the file you are about to send.
Platforms such as Instagram compare the music in an upload with what rights holders have registered, and a match can get the sound muted or the video blocked. If the music in your clip is the problem, remove the whole sound track here and add a track you have the right to use, or pick one from the platform's own music library when you post.
Removing the sound does not remove anything else the file carries. A phone video usually records when it was made and, depending on your settings, where and on which device. Muting does not change that. If you are posting the video publicly, clear that information as well with the Video Metadata Remover.
Add the video to the box on this page, check it in the preview and press Remove the audio. A few seconds later the muted video appears below with a player; press Download to save it. The picture is copied as it is, so there is no quality loss, and the file keeps its type: an MP4 comes back as an MP4.
No. The picture is copied across without being decoded or compressed again, so every frame is identical to the original. Resolution, frame rate and length stay as they were. The file usually gets a little smaller, by about the size of the sound track that was taken out.
No. Your browser mutes the video on your own phone or computer, so it never leaves your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is nothing to delete afterwards.
MP4 (including M4V), MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV. The result is saved in the same format you add, so a MOV comes back as a MOV and a WebM as a WebM.
Videos up to 150 MB are muted right on the page. That is roughly a minute and a half of 1080p phone footage, and much more at lower quality.
A few seconds. In testing, a one-minute 1080p video of about 74 MB was done in roughly two seconds, because copying a video is far quicker than rendering it again. The first time you use a video or audio tool on the site, add a few seconds for your browser to start the engine.
Open this page in Safari, add the video from your photo library and press Remove the audio; the muted copy downloads to your phone. You can also mute inside the Photos app: open the video, tap Edit, tap the speaker icon at the top left and tap Done. Photos keeps the original, so Revert brings the sound back. The copy made on this page is a separate file with no sound in it.
Open this page in Chrome or another current browser, add the video and press Remove the audio. Google Photos can also do it: open the video, tap Edit, tap the volume icon and save a copy. The icon's position changes between versions of the app.
Yes. Open this page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari and the steps are the same as on a phone. There is nothing to install.
No. An editor is more than this job needs: here you add the video, press one button and get the same video without its sound. Open an editor when you also want to change the picture.
This tool removes the whole sound track. To silence one section only, split the video into three parts with the Video Splitter, remove the audio from the middle part here, and join the parts again with Merge Videos.
Every audio track is removed, whether it is a second language, a commentary or a separate microphone. You are left with a silent video.
Yes. Subtitle tracks are copied across with the picture, so a video that has subtitles still has them after the sound is removed.
You are told: "This video doesn't have a sound track, so there is nothing to remove." Nothing is downloaded, so you cannot mistake an unchanged copy for a muted one.
Not from the muted copy, because the sound is not in it. Your original file is never changed, so keep it if you may want the sound again. Muting in the iPhone Photos app is different, because Photos lets you revert it.
No, only the sound is removed. A video can still carry the time it was recorded and, depending on your phone's settings, the place and the device. Use the Video Metadata Remover to clear that before you post the video.
Yes: remove the sound here, then put your own on with Add Audio to Video, which keeps the picture exactly as it is.
Remove the whole sound track here, then add a track you have the right to use or choose one from the platform's own music library when you upload. This tool removes all the sound, so voices and noise in the clip go with the music.
The usual reason is an automatic copyright match: the platform compares the audio with music registered by rights holders and, on a match, can mute the video, block it in some places or lower its reach. On Instagram, the Edit screen of a muted Reel has a Replace audio option. Taking the music out yourself before you upload avoids the match.
Use Video to Audio, which saves the sound track of a video as an audio file such as MP3 or WAV, also in your browser.
It is free, with no watermark, no account and no limit on how many videos you mute.
