Drop the video on the page or click to browse. MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV all work, up to 150 MB.
See what it records
The page lists what the file carries: where it was recorded, on which device, when, and any titles or comments.
Press Remove the metadata
A few seconds later the clean copy appears with a player and its new file size.
Download it
The copy is the same type of file as the original, with -clean added to its name. Add it to this page again to check that nothing is left.
Every video you record carries more than pictures and sound. Next to them the file keeps a small set of tags, and phones add more than most people realise. Add a video here and the page shows you what it holds before anything is changed, then makes a copy without it.
The picture and the sound are copied across exactly as they are. Nothing is decoded or compressed again, so the quality is identical, the length and frame rate do not change, and a video recorded upright on a phone stays upright. Subtitles are kept, and so is the language of each audio and subtitle track, so a video with several languages stays usable. The tags of the file and of each track, chapters, attachments and the extra data tracks are left behind.
The file you get back is the same type as the one you put in: MP4 stays MP4, and MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV stay what they were. That is also why it takes seconds even for a long video.
Tags are only part of what a video can reveal. A timestamp or logo burned into the image, a street sign, a face or a voice are part of the picture and sound, and removing tags does not touch them. A location you choose when you post to TikTok or Instagram is stored with the post, not in the file; edit the post in the app to change it.
Your browser reads and cleans the video on your own phone or computer, so it is never uploaded. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many videos you clean. The first time you use any of the video or audio tools on this site, your browser downloads the small engine that does the work (about 10 MB) and keeps it for next time. Videos up to 150 MB are handled on the page.
This page works in the browser on both. Your phone can also help at the source. On an iPhone, you can leave the location out when you send a video from Photos: tap Share, then Options, and turn Location off. To stop new videos being tagged with a place, choose Never under Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, Camera. On Android, turn off location tags in the camera app's settings. Those change what you send or record from now on; this tool cleans a video you already have and removes every tag, not only the location.
Add the video to the box on this page and look at what it records, which is listed straight away. Press Remove the metadata and download the clean copy. The picture and sound are copied across unchanged, so there is no quality loss, and the new file is the same type as the one you added.
Tags stored beside the picture and sound: when it was recorded, the phone or camera, often the software version, sometimes the place it was recorded, and anything typed into a title or comment field. Editing programs add their own names too. Phones can also add data tracks, such as timecode and motion data. This page lists what your file holds before you remove anything.
Many phone videos do. Whether yours does depends on whether the camera app was allowed to use location when you recorded it. If it was, the place appears on this page as coordinates; if not, the page tells you no location was found.
Add the video to this page. The list appears as soon as the file has been read, with the place shown as coordinates, the device, the date and time, and any text tags. Nothing is changed until you press the button. On a computer you can also see some of the tags in the file's Properties on Windows or Get Info on a Mac.
No. The picture and sound are copied across without being decoded or compressed again, so every frame is identical to the original. Resolution, frame rate and length are unchanged, and a video recorded upright on a phone stays upright.
No. Your browser reads and cleans the video on your own phone or computer. It never leaves your device, and nothing is sent to a server.
The tags of the file and of each track: the place, device, date and time, software names, titles, comments and any other tags. Chapters, attachments and extra data tracks such as timecode and motion data go as well. The picture, the sound, the subtitles and the language of each track are kept.
Anything that is part of the picture or sound itself: a timestamp or logo burned into the image, faces, voices and background noise. The technical details a player needs, such as resolution, frame rate and codec, stay too. An MKV or WebM file always names the software that wrote it, and here that is only the generic word Lavf.
MP4 (including M4V), MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and WMV. You get the same type of file back, so a MOV comes back as a MOV.
Add the video here and download the clean copy. To leave the location out only when you send a video from Photos, tap Share, then Options, and turn Location off; the original keeps its tag. To stop new videos being tagged, go to Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, Camera, and choose Never.
Open this page in Chrome or another current browser, add the video and download the clean copy. To stop future videos carrying a location, turn off location tags in your camera app's settings.
Yes. Open this page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari and the steps are the same as on a phone. There is nothing to install.
Platforms handle it differently, change how they do it without notice and rarely say exactly what they strip, so it is safest not to rely on it. If you remove the tags yourself before you share, the file you hand over never contained them.
No. A location you choose when you post is stored with the post, not in the video file. Change or remove it by editing the post in the app, where the app allows it. This tool clears the tags inside the file.
Because a shared video can tell people where it was filmed, when and with what, which may be your home, your workplace or your child's school. Removing the tags means the video shows only what you meant to show.
Yes. Players do not need the tags, only the picture and sound, which are untouched.
Add the cleaned video to this page again. It should say that no location, device or date tags were found.
This tool clears tags; it does not write new ones.
Videos up to 150 MB are cleaned right on the page. That is roughly a minute and a half of 1080p phone footage, and much more at lower quality.
A few seconds. In testing, a one-minute 1080p video of about 74 MB was read in about two seconds and cleaned in about one more, because copying a video is far quicker than rendering it again. The first time you use a video or audio tool on the site, add a few seconds for your browser to start the engine.
No, the sound is kept as it is. To take the sound out as well, use Remove Audio from Video.
