Choose the speed
Pick a quick speed or drag the slider anywhere from 0.25x to 4x.
Keep the pitch or not
Leave Keep the pitch ticked for natural voices and music, or untick it for the tape-speed effect.
Change the speed and download
Pick the format, press Change speed, listen to the result and download it.
Listen to a long lecture in half the time, slow a fast speaker down so you can follow every word, or play a tricky passage of a song at half speed so you can learn it by ear. Add the file, choose a speed and download the result as a new file that plays at that speed everywhere.
The speed can be anything from 0.25 times (four times slower) to 4 times (four times faster), with quick picks for the common choices, and the page shows how long the audio will be at the new speed. By default the pitch is kept, so voices and music do not turn into chipmunks when you speed up or into a growl when you slow down - that is how to speed up a song without changing its pitch, or slow it down and keep it in the same key.
Untick Keep the pitch if you want the pitch to rise and fall with the speed, like a tape or a record played too fast or too slow. That is also how a nightcore-style version of a song is made: speed it up by around a third and let the pitch rise with it.
Listen to the result on the page before you download it as MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG or FLAC. A video file works too - its sound track is saved as audio at the new speed.
Everything runs in your browser. Your music and recordings are never uploaded, so it works for private files and there is no queue to wait in.
Add the file, choose a speed above 1x - 1.25x, 1.5x or 2x are popular for podcasts and lectures - and press Change speed. The page shows how long the audio will be at the new speed. Download it as MP3 or any other format once you have listened to the result.
Add the song, choose a speed above 1x and leave Keep the pitch ticked. The song plays faster but stays in the same key, so voices and instruments sound natural. Press Change speed and download the result.
Choose a speed below 1x, such as 0.75x or 0.5x, and leave Keep the pitch ticked. The song plays more slowly in the same key, which is ideal for learning a part by ear or following fast speech.
Speeding up a recording like a tape or a record, by playing the same sound faster, raises the pitch, and slowing it down lowers it. With Keep the pitch ticked this tool changes only the tempo, so the pitch stays where it was. Untick it and the pitch follows the speed.
From 0.25x, which is four times slower, to 4x, which is four times faster. 1x is the original speed, 2x is twice as fast and 0.5x is half as fast.
Divide the original length by the speed. For example, 30 minutes at 1.5x becomes 20 minutes, and 10 minutes at 0.5x becomes 20 minutes. The page works it out for you and shows the new length as you move the slider.
Nightcore is a style of music in which an existing song is sped up and raised in pitch, usually by about a third. To make one here, add the song, choose a speed around 1.25x to 1.35x and untick Keep the pitch so the pitch rises with the speed.
Many people are comfortable at 1.25x to 1.5x, and up to 2x for material they already know well. Slow or careful speech can be listened to faster than dense, fast speech, and small changes near 1x are the least noticeable.
No. Changing a song's speed does not change who owns it, so use music you have the right to use. Royalty-free and licensed music is the safe choice for videos and streams.
The everyday speeds - 0.75x, 1.25x, 1.5x and 2x - sound natural with the pitch kept. MP3, M4A, AAC and OGG files are saved at 192 kbps, which keeps good sound quality, and WAV and FLAC are saved with no compression at all if you want the most faithful copy.
A player's speed setting changes how fast you hear the audio while you play it. This tool saves a new file at the new speed, so it plays that way in any player and on any device.
