Each swatch shows its HEX and RGB values, the nearest standard color name, and roughly what percentage of the image it covers, sorted from most to least dominant. The image is analyzed entirely in your browser using real color-quantization math (median-cut, the same general technique many professional color tools use) on a downsized copy for speed — nothing is ever uploaded to a server. Color Converter builds a theoretical palette (shades, complementary, etc.) from one color you type in. This pulls the actual dominant colors out of a real photo you upload — a different starting point, and different math.
Median-cut color quantization — the image's pixels are grouped by repeatedly splitting the widest range of color until there are as many groups as colors you asked for, then each group's average color becomes one palette entry. It's the same general technique used in many professional color tools, not a fixed set of common colors.

It analyzes a downsized copy (up to 120px on the longer side) rather than the full-resolution image — this keeps extraction instant even for a large photo, and a downsized sample represents the same dominant colors just as reliably.
Mostly-transparent pixels are excluded from the analysis, so a transparent background doesn't get counted as a "dominant color" alongside the actual subject.
