There's no recovery — the password isn't stored anywhere on our end, so keep it somewhere safe (a password manager is the reliable option) before you share the file.
A user password is required just to open the file at all. An owner password instead leaves the file readable but restricts specific actions like printing, copying text, or editing — the two can technically be set independently on a PDF, though this tool applies a single password that's required to open the file, not a separate permissions-only password.
Not currently — this tool sets a user (open) password, not a standalone owner/permissions password. If you specifically need print/copy restrictions on a file that otherwise opens freely, that's a different kind of protection this tool doesn't offer yet.

Longer and more random is meaningfully stronger — a short, common, or guessable password (like "1234" or a birthday) undermines the protection even though it technically meets the 4-character minimum. A password manager's generated password is the most reliable choice if you don't need to remember it yourself.
No — it only wraps the existing file in encryption. Every page, image, and piece of text stays exactly as it was; the password just controls who can open it.
No — a password controls who can open or use the file. A digital signature verifies who created or approved a document and that it hasn't been altered since — a different feature this tool doesn't provide.
